#365grateful Post 39

Today’s little slice of “happitude” is...

A walk down memory lane. A bed full of my childhood drawings, a 70s and 80s Barbie and, a teeny tiny cellphone were among the best finds of the day spent clearing out my parents’ house.

As a child (and even now to a much, much lesser extent) I was very sentimental and, let’s be honest, a bit of a hoarder. I never wanted to throw anything away; from letters to drawings to pet rocks to toys to old empty perfume bottles. It was a bit of a problem really!

My mom was on a mission to clear out our old bedroom cupboards and she asked my sister and I to spend the day getting rid of our old things. Ordinarily this would’ve been a big problem for me and my sentimental heart but for some reason (maybe the fact that I’m learning to let go of things that no longer make me happy or help me grow) I was rather cut-throat in my decision to pretty much just toss everything that I found in that dusty old cupboard into a rubbish bag and not look back.

I kept a few of the very sentimental finds of the day but I decided to donate a lot of the other toys I found to a children’s home. My heart is happy knowing that a little child somewhere is smiling because they have a new toy to play with.

It was a long and dusty day but there were plenty of laughs upon finding the retro Barbie dolls in the picture below. The 70s style Barbie belonged to my aunt (who was responsible for chopping off Barbie’s beautiful, blonde locks) and then it belonged to my sister before I inherited it. I don’t think we donated this one to the children’s home though, it was time for that Barbie to retire for good!
