#365grateful Post 18

Today’s little slice of “happitude” is...

A safe flight, a tasty Swedish cider and a gorgeous view of Table Mountain. Such a great way to begin my holiday!

I had been looking forward to this trip for months... I spent almost a year saving up for plane tickets and spending money and I made sure not to use up any leave days at work (even over the Christmas period) so that I could take a full week off and finally catch my breath in beautiful Cape Town with the Greek, Ruby and Jackson.

But by the time mid-January rolled around I wasn’t excited for the trip at all. I felt anxious about missing work for a week; would my team handle the extra workload I was leaving behind for them? Would there be issues while I was away? Would they contact me if there were? Should I just take my laptop with me in case? But my boss assured me that they’d have everything under control and encouraged me to go on my holiday and forget about work for a week. “You’ve earned it”, she said, “...enjoy, relax and regroup. That’s your mantra for the week”.

So, I took her advice and made a conscious decision to take the week to do a bit of self-reflection (something I’m not very fond of). I felt the urge to assess my relationship, my dreams and goals and the things that are most important to me in order to decide what I really want in all the different aspects of my life. And I think that frightened me more than anything.

Thankfully the first day of my trip was lovely (inspiring much faith for the rest of my week of self reflection). We landed safely in Cape Town where Ruby and Jackson picked us up from the airport and took us to a wonderful place called The Beerhouse for lunch. The food was incredible and Ruby and I sipped on Kopparberg ciders, a delicious blend of strawberries and lime with just enough kick to send you to cloud nine, while the boys did a mini beer tasting. Slightly tipsy and with bulging bellies, we took a drive up to Signal Hill and took some pretty pictures of Table Mountain before heading back to Stellenbosch where we would be staying for the rest of the week.

Day one in beautiful Cape Town was a winner indeed!
