Here’s
hoping that the new year will be even sweeter than the last...
Hello Dear Reader! And a very Happy New
Year to you and yours. I hope that 2014 will be good to you.
I always feel a little twinge of sadness
at the end of the year, often because I feel as though I haven’t accomplished
enough before having to welcome in a new year and all the new challenges it’ll
bring along. But I’m proud to say that I only felt a tiny twinge of sadness at
the end of 2013. It was a very busy year indeed! There was great sadness with
the passing of my Grandad and having to leave my home in Pretoria but there was
also great joy in the professional opportunities that I was given and the many
wonderful friendships, new and old, that I was able to enjoy and build on. 2013
taught me all kinds of lessons in love, hard work, gratitude, growing up and
finding myself along the way and I think I’m ready to take on 2014 with a happy
heart.
I’ve started the year as a permanent member
of staff at Dimension Data... that’s right – hard work really does pay off!
After earning my stripes through plenty of learning experiences and late nights
giving my all while temping and after a daunting interview, I was made a permanent
member of staff. I am absolutely thrilled and I am so excited to be an official
part of such a fabulous organisation!
While work is a very important part of
my life... after all, it’s what earns me the money I need to live in my darling
cottage and buy food and other stuff... it cannot be the only thing that occupies
my time. So I plan to have a bit more balance in terms of fun, adventure and time
spent with my wonderful family and amazing friends.
On the subject of “friends”, I resolve
to break ties with “frienemies” and only spend time cultivating meaningful
friendships and relationships with people who truly enrich my life. I see no
point in bending over backwards for people who don’t intend to do the same for me.
No hard feelings though... I’ve come to accept that some relationships must be
allowed to run their course – not all relationships are built to last forever.
I plan to continue my search for a little
slice of happiness in each and every day. I think that being grateful for at
least one thing every day is a wonderful way to find that little slice of
happiness which is why I’m ever so chuffed to have stumbled upon a little
project called “365grateful”. This project encourages people to take pictures
or start a journal or blog documenting at least one thing that they are
grateful for every day for a whole year in order to find happiness in ordinary,
everyday things. I would like to incorporate this little project into this blog
because I feel that I’m are far more likely to stick to a project if I know you’re
paying attention to its progress... and also, it’ll be a great way for me to
keep this blog up-to-date on a much more regular basis than I have done in the
past!
I’m also going to incorporate the “365grateful”
project into my Instagram feed, so if you have an account please follow along by
adding me to your feed... my username is @candybutterfly. If you’re interested
in starting our own “365grateful” project by way of a blog or social media
feed, do let me know by commenting on this post or on any of my Instagram
pictures labelled #365grateful; I’d love to follow your year of daily
gratitude.
Thanks for reading my ramble about my
plans for the year, stay tuned for daily “365grateful” posts.
Let’s make 2014 a year full of “happitude”!
